If there was an echo...
Do people ever listen to their own jibberish?
A couple was robbed in a casino parking lot in broad daylight, at gun point. The robber shot and killed the wife, the husband went unhurt.
On TV, the local news featured an interview with their daughter. I understand, she's in an emotional state. Her life has been turned upside-down by a sudden blast of misfortune. So, maybe she's not totally rational, but...
Twice she crossed over her own statements. She says the person that killed her mother wasn't human, then immediately follows it up by saying he's the lowest form of humanity. Well,...which is it? Is he the lowest human, or not human? He can't be both.
And the real gem, the one that sticks out more for me, being totally against killing of people, she says that she cannot understand how anyone could take a human life, *under any circumstance*. Then, in the same breath, proclaims that she hopes this guy gets the death penalty. Amazing how quickly she can find a circumstance that fits her needs.
One of my personal heros is the father of one of the women killed by Tim McVeigh in the Oklahoma City bombing. He was interviewed by the media after the guilty verdict came down, and he said that he hoped they wouldn't give him the death penalty. It wouldn't bring back his daughter, and killing people isn't right. That is a strong, strong individual. I often wonder if I would be able to maintain my stance on the death penalty if one of my own family were killed. If some such tragedy should ever befall myself, I hope that I can conjure the memory of this man and let his strength help me stick to my principals.
